CMS DELAYS IMPLEMENTATION OF SECTION 111 MANDATORY REPORTING TO JANUARY 1, 2011 (February 2010)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a delay in the implementation of Section 111 Mandatory Reporting for Non-Group Healthcare Providers (NGHP), otherwise known as Liability Insurance (including Self-Insurance), No-Fault Insurance, and Workers' Compensation plans, from April 1, 2010 to January 1, 2011. The initiation of Medicare’s independent review of prescription medications in June 2009 has resulted in large increases in Medicare Set-Asides. This informative webinar will provide an update on trends in prescription drug MSAs and solutions to reducing MSA amounts. It will also provide a breakdown on new procedures for investigating and resolving Medicare liens and a status report on the 2010 implementation of mandatory reporting of Medicare eligible claimants.
MReporter Small Volume Solution is RELEASED! (September 2009):
With the release of Section 111 of the MMSEA, MedAllocators has launched a customizable reporting platform called MedAllocators Reporter that meets all Mandatory Insurer Reporting (MIR) requirements of Section 111. To meet the needs of customers who only need to report a few claims per year, MedAllocators is excited to introduce another innovative reporting services called MReporter Small Volume Solution (SVS).
MReporter Small Volume Solution is a robust, but lite version of the MedAllocators Reporter. While the current system readily handles electronic data interchange, the MReporter SVS was designed to allow small businesses to manually enter claims and query their files with the COBC. For a small fee per use, MReporter SVS assists small business to comply with all aspects of Section 111 while providing a cost effective and efficient solution. MMSEA, Section 111 Alert (August 2009):
CMS has released a draft memo providing additional detail regarding which entities are considered Responsible Reporting Entities (RREs) for mandatory reporting. Recall that RREs have the responsibility for reporting Medicare eligible claimants to Medicare, although they can use an agent such as MedAllocators to do the actual reporting. MedAllocators, Inc. is excited to announce Daniel Anders, Esq. as Complaince Director. As MedAllocator’s, Inc. Compliance Director Mr. Anders is responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of MedAllocators’ Medicare Set-Asides (MSAs) and related products. His primary focus is developing guidelines and practices in addressing Medicare issues in the context of the MSA process and Lien Investigations.
Mr. Anders is an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He has spoken about MSAs to Fortune 500 companies as well as insurance companies and law firms. He also has extensive litigation experience, including the handling of workers’ compensation cases in his prior position with a Chicago law firm. In that position he developed and coordinated the firms’ policies for handling of Medicare requirements in workers’ compensation cases, including an in-house MSA submission program.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Anders served as a spokesman for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. He is a member of several bar associations as well as the National Alliance of Medicare Set-Aside Professionals. Mr. Anders holds a Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago.
MMSEA, Section 111 HICN Alert (June 2009):

CMS Alert and MMSEA, Section 111 Updates (May 2009):
After further review of the newest legislation, CMS has made some beneficial changes that will affect Non-Group Health Providers and the Section 111 reporting guidelines. To view a summary of these changes (click here).
CMS Alert Regarding NGHP Guide Book (March 2009):
In the follow-up of the release of the NGHP Guide Book, CMS releases an alert that addresses some important issues to include EXTENDING testing period from July 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009. This extension moves the first day of mandatory reporting to January 2010. The reporting thresholds were also addressed for all Non-Group Health Providers. To read the alert (click here).
